# How to download your data

Download a copy of the personal data Whalesync holds about your account as a JSON file from Settings, even after you've asked to delete your account.

You can download a copy of the personal data we hold about your account at any time. It's a JSON file, and it downloads right away.

## Download your data

1. Go to [Settings > Account](https://app.whalesync.com/settings/profile).
2. On the _Download your data_ card, click _Download_.

Your browser saves a file named `whalesync-data-<date>.json`. You can download a new copy whenever you like.

You can also get it if you're deleting your account. The delete confirmation dialog has a _Download your data_ link, and if you've already asked for deletion, signing in shows a _Download your data_ button until your data is deleted 30 days later. See [How to delete your account](https://docs.whalesync.com/resources/support/how-to-delete-your-account.md).

## What's in the file

* **Your account.** Your name, email addresses, and sign-in details, such as a linked Google account and when you last signed in.
* **Billing.** Your customer record, saved cards (brand and last 4 digits), invoices, and subscriptions.
* **Connections, syncs, and Live Exports.** Their names, the apps they connect, and when they were created.
* **API access.** Your API token, API keys, and the agents you've connected over MCP, without any secrets.
* **Emails.** The emails we've sent you, and your notification settings.
* **Signed agreements**, such as our [DPA](https://docs.whalesync.com/resources/support/legal-agreements.md#data-processing-agreement-dpa).
* **Activity log.** Important actions taken on your account over the past year.

The file also explains how we use your data: why we process it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and your rights, including how to complain to a data protection authority.

## What's not in the file

* **Your synced records.** This is your business data, and you already have it in your own apps.
* **Sync history.** The record of each change a sync made, which you can see on the Operations page for 7 days.
* **Credentials.** Passwords, access tokens, and the secret part of your API keys.
* **How your syncs are set up**, such as field mappings and filters. You can see these in the app.
* **Service logs.** The technical logs our servers write, which we keep for 30 days.

We may also hold records of your conversations and activity in Intercom (support chat), PostHog (product analytics), and HubSpot (our CRM). For a copy of those, email [privacy@whalesync.com](mailto:privacy@whalesync.com).

## If the download fails

If you see _Couldn't download your data_, try again in a few minutes. The download stops rather than give you an incomplete copy when one of the services it reads from doesn't respond. If it keeps failing, [email us](mailto:support@whalesync.com).
