Authorize ClickUp
Connect ClickUp to Whalesync by signing in or with a personal API token, and what to do about each ClickUp connection error.
Whalesync connects to ClickUp in one of two ways. Signing in is the default; a personal API token is an alternative if you prefer not to sign in, or are setting up a sync through the API or MCP server and need a credential to hand over.
Either way, Whalesync acts as the ClickUp user who connected: it sees that user's spaces and lists, and tasks it creates or edits show that user as the actor in ClickUp. Dates without a time are read and written in that user's timezone (see Dates). Many teams create a dedicated ClickUp user for this.
Section titled “Sign in”- In Whalesync, choose ClickUp and click Authorize.
- Sign in to ClickUp if it asks, select the workspaces Whalesync can use, and confirm.
- Pick the workspace to sync.
Whalesync sees only the workspaces you selected. To add one later, reconnect ClickUp and select it too. The sign-in doesn't expire.
Use a personal API token
Section titled “Use a personal API token”- In ClickUp, click your avatar in the upper-right corner and choose Settings.
- In the sidebar, click Apps.
- Under API Token, click Generate or Regenerate, then click Copy.
- In the connect step in Whalesync, choose Use a personal API token instead, paste the token, and click Authorize.
- Pick the workspace to sync.
A personal token doesn't expire. It reaches every workspace the user belongs to. Reauthorizing with a token for a different user, one that can't see a workspace the connection already syncs, is refused.
A connection keeps its method. To switch between token and sign-in, create a new connection.
